ChileCarne, together with other agri-food associations, met with the Forum of Indian Food Importers (FIFI) to bolster cooperation in the agricultural sector and move forward with opening markets for Chilean products.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Ignacia Fernández; the Undersecretary for International Economic Affairs, Claudia Sanhueza; the Director of ProChile, Ignacio Fernández; the Deputy Director of the Office of Agricultural Research and Policies (ODEPA), Daniela Acuña; and representatives of the country’s agri-food associations.

This was a follow-up to the presidential visit to India from April 1 to 6, when Chile announced the start of negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with FIFI. The CEPA, signed in Mumbai, aims to expand the export of Chilean food and beverages to the Indian market by facilitating collaboration between importers and exporters, exchanging information, and fostering the establishment of commercial connections.

India, with its growing middle class and robust demand for safe, high-quality food, is emerging as a market with major potential for Chilean exports. The recent meetings underscore the accomplishments of the presidential tour, unveiling new prospects for collaboration and trade. The health clearance for Chilean pork to enter this market is also eagerly awaited.
