The Ministry of Agriculture stepped up its joint efforts with the private sector during a new session of the Export Promotion Fund Council held on September 24. The meeting was attended by the president of ChileCarne, Juan Carlos Domínguez, along with representatives from other agricultural associations.

One of the main topics of the session was the strategy to consolidate outreach to target markets for Chilean agricultural products. The meeting was led by Undersecretary of Agriculture Alan Espinoza and attended by ProChile’s Director General Ignacio Fernández, the National Director of the Office of Agricultural Research and Policies, ODEPA, Andrea García; the Deputy National Director of the Agricultural Development Institute, César Rodríguez; and representatives from CORFO, the Chilean Economic Development Agency, along with various trade associations like Chilealimentos (foods), Exporlac (dairy), Fedefruta, Fruits from Chile, and ChileNut, among others. The meeting also covered the status of the activities committed to in August 2025 and the progress of the study being carried out by ODEPA on destination diversification.

The authorities noted that the products exported by the companies participating in the Fund are of particular relevance, including pork, which accounts for 7% of total exports; fresh cherries (18%); fresh grapes (9%); fresh apples (6%); and bottled red wine (5%). The main destination markets are China (24%), the United States (18%), Brazil (5%), Mexico (4%), the United Kingdom (4%), the Netherlands (4%), and Japan (4%), all of which are priorities for the Chilean pork sector.

The event was also an opportunity to discuss the Fund’s key initiatives, such as ENEXPRO Alimentos 2025, Expo Agrofuturo 2025, the Chile-ASEAN Business Meeting, and the upcoming Chile Week China, which will take place from October 20 to 26. These opportunities are fundamental for unlocking new trade opportunities in strategic markets, particularly for pork and other Chilean food products.

“The public-private commitment that we see here is instrumental in addressing current and future challenges. Our ministry continues to work to ensure that our export promotion efforts contribute not only to the competitiveness of the sector, but also to sustainable development throughout the country and in rural areas,” said Undersecretary Espinoza.

Ignacio Fernández emphasized that “this council is vital for ensuring that resources are used efficiently and strategically. We have seen tangible progress with the execution of actions and results that make it possible for us to continue diversifying our agricultural supply in international markets.”

Juan Carlos Domínguez emphasized that “for the agri-food industry, collaboration between the public and private sectors is crucial to continuing to open markets, promote our exports, and strengthen Chile’s position as a reliable food supplier. Forums such as this Council allow us to join forces and advance a common long-term agenda.”

The session reaffirmed the importance of public-private partnerships in expanding markets, strengthening competitiveness, and consolidating Chile’s position as a reliable supplier of quality food, with the pork sector continuing to gain prominence in global markets.
