Chile’s Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) is strengthening its modernization strategy by expanding the electronic certification system to livestock, a tool that digitizes the health certificates required for exporting animal products. It marks a significant step toward streamlining procedures, enhancing efficiency, and further solidifying Chile’s position as a reliable international trading partner.

The eCert system, which has already been successfully implemented in the agricultural sector, is gradually being introduced for products such as pork, beef, poultry, lamb, eggs, honey, dairy, and animal by-products. In 2024, livestock exports exceeded $800 million USD, with a growing presence in markets such as Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, China, and the European Union.

With this update, health certificates will now be issued digitally instead of on paper and submitted electronically to the authorities in the destination country. This reduces delivery times and administrative errors, while enhancing the traceability and security of each transaction.

SAG continues to open new health routes with key countries, such as Brazil, Argentina, and Hong Kong, in addition to integrating with the foreign trade single-window systems of partner countries within the Pacific Alliance, including Mexico, Colombia, and Peru.

SAG’s roadmap focuses on establishing a robust, reliable electronic certification that aligns with international standards. The challenge for the coming months will be to expand this tool to additional markets, incorporate new species and products, and continue promoting agile, safe, and digitalized foreign trade.
